Event Description: In our April workshop we will hear from pediatric pharmacist Ted Simper and neonatologist Chip Martin who will focus on the specifics of coordinating care for lactating parents by getting the whole medical team on board to ensure best care. Dr. Martin will highlight caring for families of babies with congenital heart disease and the importance of breastmilk. Dr. Ted Simper will speak on how pharmacists can work together with a medical team to best support clients within the NICU setting. Attendees to this workshop are eligible for CERPs. Speakers: Chip Martin, MD Edward “Chip“ Martin-Chaffee is a Pediatric Cardiologist and Neonatologist at St. Cloud Hospital and CentraCare in Saint Cloud. He completed medical school at the University Michigan, and he then came to the University of Minnesota where he completed his Pediatric residency. Dr. Martin then completed a combined fellowship in both Pediatric Cardiology and Neonatology. He is an adjunct Clinical Assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics and in the division of Pediatric Cardiology at University of Minnesota, and is the division Director for both Neonatology and Pediatric Cardiology in Saint Cloud. Dr. Martin is married with two children, and he and his family live outside of Annandale, Minnesota. Ted Simper, PharmD, BCPS, BCPPS, Pediatric Pharmacist Dr. Ted Simper currently provides clinical pharmacy services to the pediatric ICU, pediatric general medicine unit, neonatal ICU, adolescent mental health unit and family birthing center at St. Cloud Hospital. He also periodically works at Childrens of Minnesota in the pediatric ICU, medical/surgical unit and emergency department. Dr. Simper received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Southern Utah University and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Utah. He completed his pharmacy residency at Childrens of Minnesota in 2008. After residency, he established the neonatal ICU and maternity clinical pharmacist position at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. After also working in the pediatric ICU in Anchorage, his path brought him back to Childrens of Minnesota to be the clinical pharmacist in the emergency department for seven years before creating the pediatric clinical position at St. Cloud Hospital. Dr. Simper remains active in didactic education as a lecturer in the Pediatric Course at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. Dr. Simper is a board-certified pharmacotherapy and pediatric pharmacotherapy specialist. Born and raised in Utah, Dr. Simper misses the mountains and dry heat.
